Women at the Well

“Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again.”

John 4:13 –14

This statement could be made over the wells of life in many areas.

Over the well of success: Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again.

Over the well of pleasure:  Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again.

Over the well of materialism:  Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again.

Over the well of possessions:  Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again.

No matter how much we have, we will always be thirsty again.  But when we come to the well that Jesus offers, our thirst will be quenched and satisfied.

I have seen women who have come to the well of relationships, hoping to meet the perfect man who would fulfill their desires.  But time and time again, their Prince Charmings turned into frogs.  Their lives have been a miserable chain of unfulfilling relationships. They are yearning for meaning, yearning for faith, yearning to be loved, and yearning to have promises kept. Unlike the stagnant waters of shallow relationships and broken promises, the water Jesus offers is the kind that remains fresh and renews a woman’s soul. I have seen them return again to the Living Waters that God offers. The God of Living Waters has always pursued the thirsty one in the heat of the desert.

As our thirst begins to be quenched, the spring of God flows out to the broken around us. Jesus is waiting by the well of your life today.

Father, as I sit at the keyboard this evening, I think of the people You have allowed me to share my heart with.   Life in this world often disappoints.  We feel bruised and let down. Our hopes are dashed and our dreams crumble.   So, I think of the hard days many single again /widows are facing, the disappointments that come their way, and their need to feel loved and wanted.  Their journey has been a long one.   Please remind them that  they can come often  to the  well of refreshing waters to drink in deeply the marvelous love You have for them.  I ask that they would have the power to understand how wide, how long, and how deep Your love really is; and that they would experience the fullness of life and power that comes from You.  Please give each of  them a tender moment of personal love from Your own hand and give them eyes to see it and hearts to receive it.  In Your Name, I pray.  Amen!
