Motherhood – Duty vs Sacrifice

Can we find glorious meaning in the mundane service of family? We know that God has called us to be servants, and we often pray to that end.  We desire to see God use us. But when, by having children or elderly parents, life require us to be servants, it can make our skin bristle and our blood boil. Why do we do that?  Why do we separate our service to our family from our service to God? A dear {Read More}

When I Lost My True North

There once was a time when I held my dream job. I loved going to work.  I found satisfaction in my job and I couldn’t believe someone paid me to do it!  Then I started having babies.  Sweet, beautiful, kissable babies.  My maternal instincts kicked in, and I wanted to be able to be at home with them more, so I backed down from my beloved position. When I did that, I realized I found more than just satisfaction in {Read More}

Let Them See Jesus Changing Me

As I was praying for my son tonight before bed, I started going into a phrase I pray often. “Lord let them see Jesus in me!” I stopped and it occurred to me (as if the Holy Spirit were in my head or something) to change my prayer. Let Them See Jesus Changing Me I began to pray that my children would see Jesus changing me. I want them to know that God has the power to heal and to {Read More}

My Right-Now Dream

“Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?”  Luke 14:28 NIV I was listening to someone talk on NPR about the old phrase “you can do anything you set your mind to.” It was the parenting mantra for the last century and the speaker was railing against it saying it just wasn’t true.  He used the example that if his 5’1″ son {Read More}

Advent Finger Wreath

One of my favorite things about being a girl is painting fingernails! God gave us a ready-made canvas right on the tip of each finger to bring a little beauty to all the work we do with our hands (dishes, laundry etc.) I have a Christmas tradition in my home that makes use of our girly nature. It is a way I have tried to bring the advent tradition home in a creative way that my little girl will enjoy. {Read More}

Despite God’s History of Faithfulness

I had a moment today. It was one of those that comes out of no where, but you know you can’t stop it. I had picked up my daughter from preschool and for whatever reason, the cares of this world just came up and choked me. I began to cry.  I couldn’t help it. Typically I take a head in the sand approach to matters such as this.  I justify my approach spiritually using Matthew 6:25-34. My husband and I {Read More}
