A Year of Thankfulness

This has been for me a year of thankfulness. It started with my husband moving back home in January after living in another state for six months. It was a great way to start the year, but it was also a reminder that the trial we stepped back from while he was gone was still waiting for us.

We have been in a trial since 2012 that has made me more thankful than ever. God has reminded me in this journey that He doesn’t want us to praise Him just when things are easy, but He wants us to praise Him when things are difficult too.

Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:2-4.

I have always loved this verse, but it took on a whole new meaning over the past two years. As my husband and I pray and wait for the Lord to heal our bodies and expand our family with children, He has taught us so much. He has created in us such a thankful heart. Not only realizing how blessed we are: healthy marriage, wonderful friends, good jobs, sweet family and the list goes on and on, but, how sweet He is while we are in the midst of a difficult time. He has purpose in each day.

If you are in the middle of a storm I encourage you to praise Him. Thank Him for what you have instead of focusing on what you want. Remember God’s delays are not God’s denials. Praise Him not just for what He does, but for who He is. Even though we are ready for this storm to pass, we are thankful for each and every day of it.
