Protecting Family Time During Christmas

The Christmas season can become filled with events and commitments quickly. Before your family is going in all directions, reserve time to enjoy Christmas at a slower pace.

Make dinner time both a priority and an opportunity to relax. A festive table is as easy as paper Christmas plates, cups, and napkins. On busy nights, have dinner going in the crockpot. Each night play a different Christmas music CD. Surprise your family with some fun favorites such as a Walton Christmas CD (at Big Lots for $4.99). For added dinner time adventure, have a living room picnic and play games.

For Christmas entertainment, visit local churches for their holiday programs during the week. A Walk Through Bethlehem is a wonderful event to take advantage of if  offered in your area. After dinner and the kids are in their pj’s, hop in the car, and head to a drive-through nativity. Stop by Diary Queen on the way for ice cream.

Save one night a week for movie night. ABC and ABC Family is running their 25 Days of Christmas shows now, so take advantage of old and new favorites without leaving home to rent a movie. Pop some popcorn and enjoy  the movies you loved as a child with your children.

For an element of surprise, take all your Christmas movies and books and wrap them individually as presents. Place in a pretty basket in the living room. Each evening allow a family member to choose a present to unwrap–it will be your family entertainment for the evening. Children love this!

Enjoy a wonderful Christmas laughing and having fun with your family!
