My friend Donna, who has twenty-four grandchildren, hung this plaque in her kitchen:

Grandma’s Rules
Feed cookies
Give presents
Send kids home to Mom and Dad

We smile when we read these words. But seriously, isn’t there more to grandparenting than spoiling the grandkids? Does the Bible say anything about the responsibilities of grandparents?

Yes, God’s Word is filled with wisdom to help grandmas and grandpas become grandparents after God’s own heart. So, if you know someone who desires to be a godly grandparent, here’s a resource to consider as a gift for Grandparent’s Day, coming up on Sunday September 7.

Preparing My Heart for Grandparenting: For Grandparents at Any Stage of the Journey (AMG Publishers) provides six weeks of encouragement to help grandparents and those “expecting” to become grandparents grow in their important roles. Each week contains five lessons with Scriptures, stories and quotes from grandparents, a “GRAND thought,” and a prayer. For weekends, you’ll find a timely devotional.

Chapter topics include: a grandparent’s role, prayer, modeling a godly life, investing in grandkids’ lives, preparing for joy and tears, and making an eternal impact.

I wrote this resource to help grandparents:
* See their role through the eyes of God.
* Gain confidence and conviction in their role.
* Learn from the quotes of experienced grandparents.
* Develop stamina and faith to sustain them for the long haul.
* Impact future generations and pass on a legacy of faith.

Suitable for individuals, couples, or groups, the study can be extended to twelve weeks or longer. If you’re a grandparent, or know someone who is, consider this study to equip yourself and others to become intentional grandparents who pass on blessings for generations to come.

“His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation.” (Luke 1:50 NIV)

Happy Grandparent’s Day!
