Sometimes, our minds race in every direction. As much as we try, we can’t stop critical thoughts from bouncing around in our heads. We busy ourselves, but everywhere we turn, doubt grips us. Irrational thoughts hound us. Insecurities taunt us.
It’s a constant battle—one we cannot fight on our own. But God can—and does!
Every minute of the day, every second of the night, our Lord wages war on the enemy’s darts. Psalm 140 says, “O Sovereign Lord, my strong deliverer, who shields my head in the day of battle” (verse 7). God, our Master, is our warrior.
· He loves us.
· He rescues us.
· He shields us from attack.
We are His treasured possessions. Even though our minds might drown in negative thoughts, He never criticizes us. He never utters a negative thing about us. He never holds our weaknesses against us (Romans 8:1).
Instead, He rides on the clouds to rescue us (Psalm 104:3), and He subdues all our critical thoughts.
Our Sovereign Lord loves, He rescues, and He protects (2 Thessalonians 3:3).
· He buffers our minds.
· He sets a hedge around our thoughts.
· He stands guard at the gate and shields us from all judgmental assaults.
Critical thoughts will press in. Doubt will return. Irrational thoughts will resurface, and insecurities will rush back. At times, we will give in. We’ll believe the criticisms and beat ourselves up. Even then, God will not hold it against us (Psalm 103:10-12). And especially then, we can believe our Master’s words: He loves us. He promises to rescue us, and He will shield our head.
Prayer: Lord and Master, thank You for loving us unconditionally, for rescuing us, and for shielding us from critical thoughts. Amen.
