Advent calendars are a fun way for children to understand the countdown to Christmas. Here are some ideas for your family this year.
* A candy calendar can be purchased or made. To make one, put 24 pieces of candy per child in a jar. Each day mark a day off the calendar and give each child a piece of candy.
* Make a manger out of a shoe box. Each day, let the children add a handful of straw to create baby Jesus’ bed. On Christmas Day, add baby Jesus using a small doll wrapped in “swaddling clothes.”
* Make 24 ornaments representing the names of Jesus (Bread of Life, Lion of Judah, Shepherd, Prince of Peace, etc.). Each evening hang an ornament on the tree.
