Four Wise Things

“Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise” [Proverbs 30:24]

Before you race forward this morning, rushing into the day as though time were in the driver’s seat–back off, slow down and listen. There are four things that are extremely wise. What man or woman would not want to know what they are and gain understanding in life by them? Listen to the words of Solomon this morning from Proverbs 30:24-28:

“The ants are a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer.” FORESIGHT is the ability to ponder and be concerned about the future–what effect your attitude and actions today will have on tomorrow.

“The conies [rock badgers] are a feeble folk, yet they make their homes in the crags.” True SECURITY can be found in no other place than in connection with God through relationship with Jesus Christ.

“The locusts have no king, yet they all advance in ranks.” COOPERATION WITH OTHERS: The poet said, “No man is an island.” How true!  Somewhere, sometime we must learn that it’s not “me” but “we” that succeed.

“The Spider [lizard] skillfully grasps with its hands and is in kings palaces.” ELIMINATE THE LESS DESIRABLE (a lizard eliminates insects). Getting rid of those things that hinder, cripple, maim and generally distract us from dwelling with our King will prepare us to live wisely.

The result of living wisely will give us the foresight to make sound decisions, the confidence of true security, multiply the fruit of our labor through cooperation and create focus that fulfills our destiny.
