Do You Find Self-Control Hard too?

Hebrews12a

Do you find self-control hard to do? I know I sure do. I hate to think about losing weight because I know it calls for saying no to my flesh, and saying yes to what is best. I must want to achieve the goal more than staying where I am.

Sometimes it takes an illness, a crisis or even a wake-up call spiritually to move us to desire the changes. Before we get to the point of crisis, what are some things we can do to start down the path of self-control?

* Ask God to show you what He desires for you.

* Make a plan.

* Set short-term goals and celebrate when you achieve them.

* Give yourself incentives to achieve your goal.

* Set a beginning and an ending date for your plan.

Whether you are working on self-control in weight loss, breaking bad habits you have gotten into or even starting good spiritual habits, remember that self-control is about disciplining your mind and your body to do what is right and, more importantly, achieve God’s plan. I hope these verses will encourage you as you work toward the goal God has for you.

Hebrews 12:11-13: No discipline seems enjoyable at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it yields the fruit of peace and righteousness to those who have been trained by it. Therefore strengthen your tired hands and weakened knees, and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be dislocated but healed instead.

Please know you are not alone in your quest. Many of us are struggling to achieve the plan God has for us. Statistics show that if you have an accountability partner to make the journey with you, your plan is more likely to succeed. Ask God to reveal to you who you could ask to run this race with you. You can do it, and God will help you as you develop self-control.
