“Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up! Also, if two lie down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”

Unity is God’s foundation of the home.
Les and I have great kids, but all kids can suck your life out at times. I remember well when our children were much younger. By the end of the day I had heard my children say “Mama” so many times that I wanted to change my name. There had been demands all day from the kids and by the time Les came home I was ready to throw my hands up in surrender and run away. Though tired from work, he had not spent time with the children. His fresh spirit became the respite I needed.
While my family played I was able to prepare supper or just go get a bath by myself. After spending just a short while away I was a little more refreshed and ready to go again. Having someone to help, whether it is your husband or a friend who can just come and get the kids for a short time so you can catch your breath, will strengthen you to go to the front lines of parenthood again.
The third strand is God. He must be what holds you and your husband together. Sometimes it is a commitment to God alone that will help you to stay in a marriage that is seeing difficult days. That chord of three will not easily be broken, and when you make it through the trauma you are facing you will have someone with you who has made the journey too. With God as your strength you will make it through.
If you do not already pray with your spouse, take the time and make the effort to start this practice. It will strengthen your marriage. The old adage “the family that prays together, stays together” is true.
