Hello from Virginia!

My name is Ann Marie Stewart and I have two middle school-aged daughters and a husband who is an engineer and shepherds a flock of sheep on our 11 acres. I love musicals, volleyball, waterskiing, and playing games with my family.

Originally from the other Washington, I grew up in Seattle, but 16 years ago moved 45 minutes outside of Washington, D.C. On the East coast we say “y’all” and “soda”; on the West coast we say “you guys” and “pop.”

Though I always knew I wanted to be a mom and author, I never dreamed I’d be a sheep farmer, too. But that has provided rich material for speaking and writing topics and bonding experiences with my children. Together we’ve seen lambs born, bottle-fed them and even warmed them in our bathtub when they were too weak to stand. “All we like sheep,” perhaps yes, but I’ve learned it’s not exactly a compliment to be compared with them. Stories from our sheep farm are the backbone of my Country Register column, “Ann’s Lovin’ Ewe.”

Before farm life, I taught junior and senior high music and English, directed musicals, and earned a masters in film and television. I have written a series of Bible studies entitled “Preparing My Heart” (www.preparingmyheart.com). I hope my readers learn as much from the books as I learned while writing them.

My former minister used to pray, “Teach me that others may be taught.” I hope to learn and grow with you as we walk with the Lord.

About Ann Stewart

Ann just won the Christy Award for Best Debut Novel of 2017 with Stars in the Grass, originated AMG’s Preparing My Heart series, and writes “Ann’s Lovin’ Ewe” for The Country Register. When she's not writing, she's waving her arms directing musicals, teaching middle schoolers, or watching UVA Basketball, This is Us, or Madam Secretary. In her free time she hangs out with her husband, raising two lovely daughters and a whole flock of fuzzy sheep on Skye Moor Farm, in Virginia--where unscripted drama provides plenty of entertaining material.
