And Next Comes Peace ~

Love, joy, patience, and now during April, we began our study of the Holy Spirit’s fruit of peace in the life of believers.

Lets be honest here, our human flesh is given to worry, anxiety, and disharmony with others. All of us have experienced the absence of peace as a result of our original sin nature. We’ve all made mental decisions to ‘do better’, ‘keep our mouth shut,’ ‘be peaceful’, not worry’ and had it last only as long as the grand thought ran through our mind.

Each of us also knows the emptiness a life without Christ holds too. Those hopeless days, do you remember them? Believers know true peace with God can only be found through Christ alone. Just a mental ascent to salvation does not bring peace. It is in the giving of our all; heart, mind and soul to Christ and making Him Lord that alters our lives eternally and establishes fertile ground for the Holy Spirit to grow peace in our lives.

Peace has six definitions we need to consider:

1. (n.) A state of quiet or tranquility; freedom from disturbance or agitation; calm; repose

2. (v.) Exemption from, or cessation of, war with public enemies.

3. (v.) Public quiet, order, and contentment in obedience to law.

4. (v.) Exemption from, or subjection of, agitating passions; tranquility of mind or conscience.

5. (v.) Reconciliation; agreement after variance; harmony; concord.

6. (v. t. & i.) To make or become quiet; to be silent; to stop.

Peace is spoken of 530 times in the Bible. Following are scriptures on peace from the book of Romans to get us started this month. Take time to read and use as you pray for yourself and loved ones. If you are experiencing worry or unrest in any area, take it to God in prayer and allow His sweet Holy Spirit to renew and refresh you in His fruit of peace. Do you have a testimony of God’s ‘peace that passes all understanding’? I would love to hear and share it with everyone. Scripture tells us to encourage one another and a powerful way is to share stories of God’s faithfulness in our lives. It gives each of us hope as we see Him at work in all situations. Email your peace testimony to mentoringmoments@aol.com and I’ll share them throughout the month.

Romans 1:7 to all who are in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 2:10 But glory, honor, and peace go to every man who works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

Romans 3:17 The way of peace, they haven’t known.”

Romans 5:1 Being therefore justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ;

Romans 5:10 For if, when we were haters of God, the death of his Son made us at peace with him, much more, now that we are his friends, will we have salvation through his life;

Romans 5:11 And not only so, but we have joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we are now at peace with God.

Romans 8:6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;

Romans 10:15 And how will they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the Good News of peace, who bring glad tidings of good things!”

Romans 12:18 If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men.

Romans 14:17 for the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:19 So then, let us follow after things which make for peace, and things by which we may build one another up.

Romans 15:13 Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

Romans 15:33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

Romans 16:20 And the God of peace will quickly crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
