True Hope and Change

The Republican and Democratic conventions have come to a conclusion.  Party platforms have been discussed and voted upon.  News commentators have given their opinions and interviews.  The days are counting down to perhaps one of the most important elections in America’s history.  Will the citizens of America stand upon the foundation of God, His Word, and the Constitution, or will the citizens of America chose to stand upon this foundation–the government?

The fact is this: there has been a steady decline in this country as groups have tried to take the word “God” out of everything. The Pledge of Allegiance and prayer were a normal part of my school day, that is, until I reached fourth grade.  The teacher told us she didn’t believe in it and would not allow it.  I can remember going to the SRA reading lab with another student.  There we would do our assignment, but we also had our Bibles and we would read together and pray.  Yes, we were sneaking God’s Word into the school.  We sought “the hope which is laid up for you in heaven” Col. 1:5.

Another fact: the government can promise you all types of things—jobs, freedom, and liberty.  But these things are not for the government to give.  God created work and through the blood of Jesus Christ a person obtains freedom and liberty which transforms their lives.  A true citizen knows her or his citizenship is really in heaven, but they are to live as a model citizen in this world.  God is sovereign and the true provider of all things.  The ability to work, your health, even the family you were born into, the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are all God-given.

True hope and change is not found in the man who serves as president of the United States, whoever he might be.  True hope and change starts when a person acknowledges the need to repent and believe in Jesus Christ.  Romans 5:2 is clear, “Through (Him) also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”

Citizens of the United States of America: may “the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit” Romans 15:13.

Stand Strong . . .

Stand Courageously . . .

Stand for True Hope and Change.
