Evangelism, just the word can make some go into cold chills thinking that they will have to go out and beat people over the head with the gospel message. Growing up in a traditional church, we had a program where people would go out one night of the week and “share the gospel.” I grew up thinking that was evangelism. It wasn’t until I was a student at New Orleans Seminary that I realized that evangelism was really just loving Jesus so much that He spills out of you everywhere you go and in everything you do. It is like when you fill a cup up and try to walk around with it, if you aren’t careful you will spill it because it is so full and the contents can’t be contained when moved around.
That’s what God intends for us. As we study His Word, pray, live out the principles we learn and see Him in our every day experiences, we are being filled with Him, and His Spirit moves freely in us. He spills out on the people at the grocery store, school, our place of business and any other place a child of God goes. The Bible tells us in Colossians 4:5-6 to walk with wisdom and to season every conversation with the salt of the gospel. Matthew 28 commissions us as we are going to make disciples. That is not just a convert but a person who daily fills up on Jesus so that the next person can be sprinkled with the gospel message. I pray you will see evangelism as much more than just a program one night a week at your church. Catch the vision of daily splashing Him on everyone in your path.
