Patience–Not in My DNA

“I could never homeschool! I don’t have the patience for that!”

I don’t know how many times women have told me that. Every single time I hear those words I want to scream “What makes you think I have any more patience than you?!”

When it comes to patience we often think of that quiet, serene, soft-spoken woman who doesn’t get riled up when the dog pukes on the couch. Who lets the harried shopper go ahead of her in the grocery line even though she’s got an overloaded cart. Or who smiles sweetly at the receptionist even though the doctor is two hours behind schedule.

Yeah.

That’s NOT me.

What exactly is patience? Because whatever it is seems to be missing from my DNA!

Patience is saying and living out the fact that I will wait, and even suffer, for a long time until this is all over, because Jesus suffered for me, and because He waits for me.

Patience is being to others what Jesus is to us. It’s waiting – again – because I know that Jesus has sometimes waited days until I spend time with Him. It’s explaining for the 17th time how to do that math question because I know Jesus has told me more times than I can count that He loves me, and some days I still don’t get it.

Homeschooling is not “my thing” because I’m patient. It could be the Lord called me to this so I could learn patience!

As a homeschool mom I need patience. As a wife I need patience. As a mom of teens I need patience. As a woman praying for a breakthrough, I need patience.

It’s not in my DNA… but it is in God’s!

As He makes me into a new creation, and as I become more like Him, I trust my DNA will conform to His and that virtue of patience will begin to appear like fruit in my life… just like He promised!

What situation have you been praying for that requires patience? What circumstance are you living in that challenges your patience?
