Joy-Bringer

Just this morning I told my daughter we should have given her the middle name Joy. Except that it rhymes to closely with our last name and wouldn’t have been a good fit… then I said it together, Joy Coroy, and the laughter that bubbled from her confirmed the truth… she is our joy-bringer!

I love listening to her laugh. From the day she was born she could change her attitude on a dime. She’d smile or laugh as soon as we’d say, “Myanna, change your attitude!” And she’d keep that happy disposition sometimes for days. Puberty and roller coaster hormones have added a bit of a challenge for her, and now it can take up to five minutes (on a bad day) to change from the worst attitude ever to a full-fledged belly laugh. Not quite as quick as when she was a baby, but still much faster than anyone else I know! Joy is always close by if Myanna is around.

Myanna isn’t the only joy-bringer. The Bible says that Jesus is our joy-bringer. Wherever He is… there is joy!

“… in your presence there is fullness of joy…” Psalm 16:11b, ESV

Do you need a little joy in your life today? Are the after-Christmas blues weighing your spirit down? I can’t lend you my Myanna. And even if I could, I’d want her back! But I can offer you Jesus.

No matter how deep the grief, how heavy the burden, how intense the pain… Jesus wants to be your joy-bringer today.

Spend some time with Jesus. Read the Bible. Pray. Listen for His voice. Because it’s in the presence of Jesus where we find true joy! And who doesn’t need a little more joy? I know I sure do!
