One dark stormy day God delighted me with an unexpected gift of beauty and encouragement.
I was driving alone in our old battered tank-like truck when fear, like the heavy rain that fell from the blacks clouds, washed over me. I searched the heavens and cried out to God for relief from the circumstances that were controlling my life. Immediately my eyes were drawn to the eastern sky where the most radiant rainbow I have ever seen appeared among the clouds. Its bright colors burst into the darkness of my soul and bathed my wounded heart with hope and joy.
My circumstances didn’t change that day; in fact, I would soon endure the deepest pain of my life.
This intimate moment in the precious presence of my heavenly Father planted a seed of encouragement and courage that I would see grow in my life as my marriage ended and I began a new life alone.
Over the next few years, I experienced many days when dark clouds of doubt, despair, and discouragement enveloped me like a heavy suffocating shroud.
On the days when the shadows seemed unending and misery dampened my soul, I cried out to my heavenly Father. He heard and caused the darkness to dissipate and His presence to shine through like a rainbow on a rainy day. He led me to this verse that I clung to as I plodded my way along a broken path.
The appearance of the brilliant light all around
was like that of a rainbow in a cloud on a rainy day.
This was the appearance of the form of the Lord’s glory.
When I saw it, I fell facedown and heard a voice speaking.
Ezekiel 1:28
Since that day God has blessed me in ways that I could never have imagined. His love, grace, peace, mercy, and faithfulness have carried me through valleys and mountaintops. He has never ever failed me.
A rainbow is just one sign of God’s promise of His faithfulness.
When you’re traveling through a shadowy valley, fix your eyes on Jesus. God will send a rainbow of His presence to brighten your path. It may not be an actual rainbow like it was for me, but it will be a personal sign between you and your Father who loves you with an everlasting love.
Keep your eyes and ears open and your heart and soul tuned to His voice. He will never fail.
