CPK Family Cookbook: Orange Chicken

Whether it’s for a birthday or special occasion, a family favorite restaurant to visit is California Pizza Kitchen. Funny thing is, we love the salads (Thai Crunch is my pick) and entrees more than their pizza! Over the summer the kids and I found the California Pizza Kitchen Family Cookbook at the library and enjoyed spending a few weeks cooking our way through it. Inspired by CPK’s orange lettuce wraps in the cookbook, we transformed it from what my family considered an appetizer to a main dish.

A bit more time-consuming than most recipes, orange chicken is worth every minute. In place of lettuce wraps, our version was served with rice. Since this is not a copycat recipe nor did I tweak it to suit my family, but made it straight from CPK, I am not sharing the recipe for copyright reasons. I know, I just built it up to not deliver! What I do encourage for those wanting to make orange chicken is to stop by your local library this week and get the cookbook.  It will be free to check out and you’ll have CPK’s step-by-step instructions.  In fact, take some time to peruse the cookbook section for other family favorite restaurant cookbooks.

If you are looking for some fantastic fresh ingredient recipes, I cannot recommend California Pizza Kitchen Family Cookbook highly enough. While it is a marvelous restaurant to patronize, making the meals at home saves a substantial amount of money.
