Carpet Rakes and Other Homemaking Tips

I love things that make housekeeping easier and prolong the life of my stuff. These are some my favorite household tips and tricks, gathered over the years from a variety of sources. Carpet Rake When my split shag carpet was installed I asked the installers how best care for it. I was advised to buy an outdoor leaf rake for inside and rake the carpet weekly so the nap would remain fluffy. That is something I never in a million {Read More}

Unfailing Love

Being a Christian does not guarantee a life free from heartache, stress, or pain. As believers, it seems there can be feelings of shame in that admission which prevents us from sharing our emotional and spiritual wounds with one another. I’m here to tell you, it’s in those times of our trouble that people need to understand God is real to us and He still loves us, whether the situation is a problem of our own making or not. It {Read More}

Heather’s Chicken Noodle Soup

Cold and flu season is here again and  for some reason nothing seems to taste as good as homemade or at least semi-homemade chicken noodle soup.  This is the one I make when the sniffles start in our house, I got it from a friend when we lived in Hartselle, Alabama several years ago. Here’s a little secret, it’s so good  I sometimes make it even when we’re not sick. Chicken Noodle Soup 1 pound cooked chicken, shredded 8 cups {Read More}

Letting Go

In the 15th chapter of Luke, Jesus tells a parable about a father and his two sons. Usually, those verses are under a heading titled, “The Prodigal Son” and the focus of numerous lessons I’ve heard preached through the years typically seems to be on the wayward younger son.  However, these days as I move to a different side of motherhood, the side where I have to start letting go, where I no longer choose who my child can hang {Read More}

Jesus, Your Friend

Garth Brooks sang about “Friends in Low Places” but friends in positions to help us are what we’d really like. According to the spokesperson for jewelry store, Shane and Company, if you choose them for your fine jewels “you’ve got a friend in the diamond business”. If you are lucky enough to be the child of a police officer (like me) then you might get out of a ticket or two or your daddy might get to know a bit {Read More}

What Can’t Be Argued

Bible verses are great, I mean for believers of course. For us, they either confirm something in which we believe, offer a source of comfort in the midst of pains, or give something to cling to when life’s stuff gets us down.  But for those who don’t know God, words of Scripture offer little more than pleasantries at best or condemnation and judgment heaped on by well-meaning Christians at worst. Let me be clear, I love God’s Word. I trust it {Read More}

A Basket of Sunshine

A friend recently shared how someone’s thoughtfulness as she went through an extended recovery after surgery made her day, or rather her days. She received a sunshine basket. The basket was filled with individually wrapped gifts and instructions to unwrap one present each day.  Small items such as a journal, a candle, candies, lotion, or maybe a nail polish are perfectly suited to brighten someone’s day.  Anyone going through a long-term recovery or a significant life change or anyone who {Read More}

Cranberry Chicken

This is a super-easy and different way to use chicken. The dressing is tangy and the cranberry sauce sweet. Together these ingredients create what my husband called a flavor explosion.  I think you will either love it or hate it, at least that is the way it was in our house. Three out six of us are fans. 4 boneless skinless chicken breast 1 10oz. bottle French dressing 1 packet onion soup mix 1 can whole berry cranberry sauce Salt {Read More}
