Walking it Out

I love what Beth Moore writes in her new Bible study entitled, Children of the Day. She writes, “Come walk with Me. Even with a limp. That’s what Jacob did (Gen. 32:31). Even in the fire. That’s what Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego did (Dan. 3:25). Even when we feel like all hope is gone and no one came through…Come walk with Me, whatever shape you’re in, no matter how wounded or bruised. Just bring Me your whole heart – even in ten thousand shards – and let’s walk this thing out together (2 Chron. 6:14).” (2014, p.50)

When I initially thought about the concept of “walking with God,” I pictured the two of us, God and me, there on a gorgeous beach, walking along, swinging our arms, fellowshipping together. And then came Genesis 17:1 and 48:15 and other references to walking “before” God. So, my mental picture changed and there I was walking in front with God at my heels as I turned around now and then to see Him there smiling and gesturing for me to keep going.  And then, came another visual. Just maybe “before” him has Him in front, walking backwards, looking at me. And, just like a toddler who is cautiously walking forward toward a parent when he first tries out his walking feet, my eyes are fixed on Him, aware that He is close, present, and within me.

Are you walking with a limp right now? He’s right there with you. Walk it out with Him. He loves you so much.  Let Him teach you to trust Him as you are walking it out with Him. He is Sovereign.  He can see the big picture and, even when we don’t understand, His ways really are best and always for our good.

The first thing I hope to do when I get to Heaven is bow before Him and kiss His feet. The feet that have walked it out with me. I can’t really imagine I’ll be able to do much else when I literally walk before Him!
