In His Presence #20: A Steadfast Mind

My personal In His Presence time for the past few weeks has been focused on “my mind.”  I want to have a steadfast mind like it says in Isaiah 26:3:

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you.

In the book, Breaking Free by Beth Moore, she goes to great length to examine four phrases from this verse.

The first is:  You will keep.  She explains that God is like a “watchman” over our minds, which is fitting since He alone knows us “completely.”  (Psalm 139)

The second is:  in perfect peace.  Who doesn’t long for peace?  She explains this word to mean “to be safe” and to “be complete.”

The third is:  him whose mind is steadfast.  She creates a word picture that couldn’t be clearer.  Our minds are like picture frames.  When something happens to us, “our reaction depends on how we have framed the event.”   This makes me think about the verse Philippians 4:8:

Finally , brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.

“When temptations and troubling thoughts come, steadfast believers choose to lay their hands on God’s Word and know that it’s the truth,” Beth writes.  So when those troubling events or thoughts happen, we can read or quote Scripture.

The fourth is: because he trusts in you.  Listen to what the Hebrew word for trust means…”to attach oneself…, to confide in, feel safe, be confident, secure.”  I’m reminded of the old hymn, “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.”

I’ve created another poster for you as a free download this week.  This one is based on Isaiah 26:3.  Will you join me in memorizing it and using it to steady your mind when Satan tries to attach your thoughts? (Steadfast Mind Poster)
