Hi, I’m Lydia Harris, also known as Aunt-TEA Lydia and Grandma Tea. I received these titles because I love to share tea with others and write the column, “A Cup of Tea with Lydia.” My husband enjoys tea, too. So after our fortieth anniversary, he suggested we go for tea for-TEA (40) times the next year! We reached our goal, but it took more than two years. As you can tell, we’re both happily steeped in tea.
I met my husband Milt at the University of Washington through a Christian group on campus. Although I became a home economics teacher and taught in the Seattle public schools for two years, after our kids were born I became a full-time mom. Now our daughter and son are married, and we have five adorable grandchildren, from newborn to eleven years of age.
Besides writing for MMCW, my life is overflowing. Grandparenting is one of my greatest joys, and my grandkids help me create and test recipes for Clubhouse and Clubhouse Jr. magazines for kids. Grandparenting is also the theme of my first book, Preparing My Heart for Grandparenting: For Grandparents at Any Stage of the Journey
. Recently released by AMG Publishers, this Bible study is suitable for grandparents at any stage of the journey.
One of my favorite times of the week is praying with other grandmothers. I first joined a Moms In Touch prayer group more than twenty years ago. Praying with other moms has become a lifelong habit, because our kids and grandkids never outgrow their need for prayer.
I’m thankful for my large extended praying family. (I’m the youngest of eight.) Many live near Seattle and meet together every other month to pray. We share requests and answers, and those living further away pray in their own cities.
I’m pleased to be part of this blog and look forward to getting to know you.
God bless you all.
