Do you love God’s Word?

No, I am not talking romantically or anything weird. I am asking do you long to read it daily? Do you feel like something is missing if you have not taken time to sit and read it daily?

Can you identify with this verse?

Psalm 119:97   “Oh how I love your law!  It is my meditation all the day.

When we lived in Summit, Mississippi, Life Action Ministries conducted a revival at my church. They gave us a thorough spiritual examination! It was much like a yearly physical exam, but it dealt with spiritual life. One of the questions asked was, “Do you have a love or a passion for God’s Word?”

I had walked with the Lord for some time at that point and read the Bible daily as a part of my check-off list. I obeyed the Word, but when it came to truly loving or having a passion for it, I did not feel that way.

The revival preacher challenged the congregation to pray for a passion for the Word. I will admit I did not like what happened next because God drove me out of my comfort zone to where I had to rely on His Word only.

We moved to a new town. The position of pastor’s wife was removed as Les, my husband, served as Department Chair at a University. I was far from friends and was homeschooling our four children. I felt alone and discouraged. BUT it was during those days that God had me meditate daily on His word. It was life to me and I engaged in deep Bible study to fill the hole I felt. I laughingly say I went on vacation with Beth Moore, but she wasn’t actually there.  I was completing her Bible studies by myself and seeing amazing things in God’s Word.  I would not be the woman I am today had God not driven me to His Word through that difficult time. When I did meet new friends I joined a Precept Bible Study and began to devour God’s Word in an even deeper way.

If I were asked today if I love God’s Word and  have a passion for it, my answer would be ABSOLUTELY! It is my life and with it I find wholeness and peace.

I pray those of you who are reading this and are hurting will be driven to His Word as well and find the balm you so deeply desire.  You can pick up a Bible study at any local Christian bookstore and begin your journey today.  Even better would be to gather with a friend or two and study together.  No one has to be the teacher.  Just share what you are learning.  Please feel free to join us as we are reading God’s word with our Anchoring Deep group on Facebook.  You can start right where we are.  No matter what method you choose, just know that as a believer in Christ Jesus you need to be in God’s Word.  It is His daily gift to you.  Try it and find out all you have been missing.
