Tim had a reason to be focused on the servant’s bloodied ear and the gentle Jesus.

Tim was born with a miniature deformed ear with no hole. With medical advances in hearing repair, my brother and his wife opted for Tim to have the multiple surgeries that might correct the problems. Doctors created an ear from skin and cartilage from other areas on his body, and would later drill a hole in his skull.

I will never forget Tim’s look of awe and surprised joy as He watched [the recreation of the scene where] Jesus healed the servant—Jesus’ last miracle before the miracle of the cross. With a slow realization, Tim connected with that wounded youth as well as the gentle and healing Jesus who came to bring peace, not the sword.

Can you, too, connect with the Healer in the Garden? This week, can you place yourself in the scenes of Jesus’ last week on earth? Can you know that it was for YOU that He taught, loved, healed, died and rose again?

Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.  Hebrews 12:2
