When Stuff’s Not Enough: A Christian Perspective on Decluttering Your Life by Johanna Tooke

When I saw the title for this book, I was captured. How do I collect so much stuff, and what do I do with it all? Johanna Tooke begins her book by addressing these same questions. She is a wife, mom, and daughter who has bought more self-help books, read more blogs and articles and purchased more organization products than one could ever use but, with all of the information and tools, she still found herself struggling to declutter.

In the book Johanna gets to the why more than the how of decluttering. She gives great quotes and Scriptures that help us self-diagnose reasons why we save things and how to be realistic about what we use storage space for. She deals with time as well as possessions and how we clutter our days with more than we can do and then feel frustrated because it is never enough. Johanna is honest in saying that it is a difficult job to peel back the layers of why we save things but also reminds us that with the Holy Spirit helping us, we can trust God to help us get to the core of why. He will help us trust Him in letting go.

Each short chapter ends with questions that will help in the decluttering journey, as well as practical projects to help determine what is truly necessary. Johanna also says we will need support from family and friends to help us make the journey. If you are struggling to declutter your life, I would highly recommend this short read to help you find the whys that will help you carry out the how of decluttering.
