It’s crazy how Satan takes what is good and holy then twists it to be ungodly. Take, for example, the way God created woman. The whole reason He created her (us) is because He wanted the part of His image that is helper to be revealed in His creation.
When God made Adam and checked out all He had made, He said there was no “ezer” for Adam. Ezer. Helper. The only other places in Scripture where that word is used is in relation to God as Helper (Ps. 121:1-2 for example).
God, who is our Help, our EZER, looks at His creation, walks with Adam in the Garden of Eden and says, ‘There is no ezer for him.” So He creates woman.
The Divine Calling, the image of the character of God that is Helper, was put onto us. Not Adam or any other created thing. God gave women the role of ezer. You. Me.
Ezer: to be a helper the way God is our helper. Not to be a doormat, assistant or second-in-command, but a powerful, strong, effective, helper who does so without pomp and circumstance and leaves her Super Woman suit at the door.
Then Satan enters the picture. He messes everything up. He twists what is holy and good.
The evidence Satan is twisting the role of ezer in my life is when I become fix-it woman, or when I just hurry up and do the job myself because I can do it better. It is when my “strong” personality leaves no room for my husband to lead, or even to follow God’s lead because I’m so busy helping him out.
God doesn’t bump us out of the way because He can do the job better, even though He can. He (almost) never drops in and does all the work for us. He never makes us feel useless or in the way. His help empowers us to live with courage and strength a life that is aimed toward an eternity with Him.
When was the last time you were your husband’s ezer, empowering him to live with courage and strength a life that is aimed toward an eternity with God? Are you willing to set aside your own ways, rights and attitudes so that you can reflect the image of God that you carry, the holy image of ezer?

Whoa! Powerful!…and powerfully hard to purposefully and quietly step aside and let God work through our husbands! But we can, because God can through us!
You are so right, Maureen… God can do it through us!! Bless you!

Carla Anne – you are so right. We need to remember what God intended for us – not the world, not Satan, not even our spouses, pastors, family or friends. What does God want from His daughters? You have me thinking about this, and praying about it too. Thank you my friend.
