Abigail and Ever After

What movie has a fairy godmother, a pumpkin that turned into a carriage and a glass slipper? Would you guess Cinderella? Walt Disney’s classic animated version of Cinderella is beautiful with the lovely blonde girl who sings like an angel and the little singing mice that wear clothes. But for a more believable story line, the best choice may be a modern version called Ever After: A Cinderella Story. It doesn’t have a pumpkin or a fairy godmother. The 1998 {Read More}

It’s a Wonderful Life – Noah’s Wife

The 1946 movie It’s a Wonderful Life came out as the Second World War was ending and everyone needed a feel-good story. Produced in black and white (and colored later), it didn’t make much of a splash at the time, but it has become an enduring classic, played on many TV channels at Christmas and ranking 24th on an internet movie site’s survey of the best movies of all time. That is all the more remarkable because all the movies {Read More}

God Winks: Valley Between the Mountains

In life we find that between the mountains there is always a valley. Recently at a women’s conference I attended, Lisa Harper spoke about this fact being true geographically, physically, and spiritually. The conference weekend was truly a mountaintop experience for me. The worship led by Meredith Andrews, the testimony of Jan Harrison, and Lisa’s Bible teaching lifted me to heights of joy that blessed me greatly. The fellowship with family and friends I hadn’t seen in a while added {Read More}

About Ginny Holcombe

First of all I am a daughter of the King! My relationship with Jesus is the best and most important part of my life. I’m a mother of 3 and grandmother of 7. I’m also a sister, aunt, mother-in-law, and friend. I can’t leave out Cinnamon, my Jack Russell/Basenji who touches me daily with love, companionship, and laughter. Not to mention ideas for my blog! God has blessed me with the opportunity to serve Him as a ministry assistant and receptionist at Porter Memorial Baptist Church. This gives me the opportunity to encourage and assist people from all walks of life and I’m thankful for the opportunity to see Him at work among His church. I am a woman who has been broken by life and circumstances but made whole by my relationship with Jesus Christ. My deepest desire is to use the gifts of writing and speaking to encourage women to cultivate a deeply intimate relationship with Jesus and to allow the Holy Spirit to guide them through each day. I enjoy sharing the lessons He brings to my life on my blog: butterflyginny.blogspot.com and my Facebook page, Gazing at Jesus. I’m thankful to be given the opportunity to share what God is teaching me on MMCW. I pray that His love, grace, and mercy will touch you every day.

All About Eve

[For most of my life I’ve had two fascinations: Bible study and movies. For a long time I considered them two sides of my personality, like Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde—the spiritual side and the secular side. But then I watched in amazement as the two merged. In a women’s Bible class, I decided to teach a series on women of the Bible. As I mapped out the study, something about each woman character I chose reminded me of a {Read More}

Does God Care about Your Everyday Problems?

Does God care about our everyday problems? People ask this question all the time. My answer from experience would be a resounding yes. I have many examples from almost 65 years of life but I’d like to share just one of them with you. In 1993 I was attending Southern Seminary in Louisville, KY. I lived about 30 miles from the seminary so it was a long commute on class days. Anyone who has ever driven on I64 through the {Read More}

God’s Faithful Rainbow During My Darkest Days

One dark stormy day God delighted me with an unexpected gift of beauty and encouragement. I was driving alone in our old battered tank-like truck when fear, like the heavy rain that fell from the blacks clouds, washed over me. I searched the heavens and cried out to God for relief from the circumstances that were controlling my life. Immediately my eyes were drawn to the eastern sky where the most radiant rainbow I have ever seen appeared among the {Read More}

The Choice is Yours – Walking in the Spirit

Moses and the people of Israel stood on the edge of the Promised Land. Moses recalled the covenant God had made with the people and declared a series of blessings for obedience and curses for disobedience (see Deuteronomy 28-30). The people had a choice: obey the Lord, receive blessings and live, or disobey, experience curses and die. Moses exhorted, “Therefore, choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the LORD your God, obeying his voice and holding fast {Read More}
