I'm Jan and I'm so happy to be a part of Mentoring Moments and I'm constantly blessed by the wisdom and encouragement of all of the ladies that make this site so special....from the writers and organizers to the women who leave messages for us here and on Facebook. I'm Jan, one of the MMCW writers, and you should know a bit about us. We're very ordinary women who love our Lord and Savior and who desire to be more like Him! Let me tell you a little about me... Currently I am a stay-at-home, never-stop-the-lovin', keep-the-food-a-comin' mom and wife. Does it sound a little wild and crazy from that first sentence? Good! It is. I was born in the south and love all of the good home-cookin' from scratch projects I can squeeze into my day. For me, food is comfort, community, nourishment, and love. There's almost always a pot simmering with something yummy in it. You'll see me sharing food ideas here on Mentoring Moments and occasionally on my blog: <a title="http://www.atinylittleripple.blogspot.com/" href="http://www.atinylittleripple.blogspot.com/">atinylittleripple.blogspot.com</a>. My husband and I have been married for nearly twelve years and what a delight it has been. We have five children, four from my previous marriage. At one point we were seven in a small house with one bathroom. Can you picture that? It can't get much more vivid, can it? We now have two grown children on their own and two teen boys who will be independent before we know it. Our youngest just turned eleven and we feel like time is flying by with an empty nest soon to follow. Ever feel like that? Our family focus has been on self-sufficiency and it has taught us so much, not to mention the fun that comes with doing more! We're beekeepers (lots of golden honey this year!), soap-makers (beautiful bars that make your skin feel pampered), butter-churners (scoop the cream off the top and shake, shake, shake) and farmers (we just bought acreage in Mississippi and built a barn). And I quilt on the side. Side? What side? I'm not sure I can find one more spare minute! We've homeschooled for years and years and I have managed to brush up on my algebraic equations, capitalization rules, historical dates and public speaking. For the record, homeschooling does as much to train, discipline and teach a mom as it does her child. Did I just hear an "Amen" from the back of the room? In all seriousness, please know that it is a genuine blessing to be part of such a godly group of women. It is my intention to be as authentic and transparent as possible. Sometimes it is a difficult task when struggles come but I am confident that you have struggles too and may benefit from seeing someone else navigate the muddy waters of life. I have a heart for single-moms since I lived that role for five years. I speak publicly on forgiveness and occasionally teach on various topics. I love the life that God has given me and I live intentionally, thoughtfully considering the way I spend my time and energy. One of my all-time favorite verses is: Psalm 90:12..."Teach us to number our days that we might apply our hearts unto wisdom."
